1st Day of School
When: Tue, September 3

Arrival and Departure of Students

School begins at 7:45 a.m. When arriving prior to 7:45, students in grades 1-8 report to the playground and kindergarten students report to the gym. Students eating breakfast may enter the building at 7:20 a.m. and go straight to the cafeteria for breakfast. Supervision of students who arrive early begins at 7:20 a.m. on the playground, gym, and cafeteria. For safety reasons, no students are allowed into the building prior to this time. Likewise, parents are asked to supervise their children on the playground if utilizing it prior to 7:20 a.m. when supervision is available. This is applicable to all ages.

For safety reasons as well, all adults (including family members of staff and students) must check into the office and get a visitor’s pass before proceeding throughout the building.

PreK Students: Enter and dismiss according to PreK guidelines. All PreK parents use the main door #1 for entry into the building.

Grades K-4: Students in grades 1 – 8 arrive and wait on the playground and students in kindergarten wait in the gym. Students in grades K - 4 dismiss through Door 3 and wait on the playground for parents/guardians. Students in grades K-4 are dismissed to a supervising adult (parent, guardian, babysitter, etc.). A supervising adult is required to dismiss a student in these grades. Students are not dismissed independently. If a supervising adult is not available by 3:00 on the playground, any remaining students will move to the school’s main office and wait for parents/guardians there.

Grades 5-8: Students arrive in the morning and wait on the playground. Students in grades 5 and 6 dismiss through Door 2 independently. Students in grades 7 and 8 dismiss through Door 8 independently. A supervising adult is not required to dismiss students in grades 5-8.

Dismissal: Students not participating in J at School (Alcott’s after-school care) or an after school activity will be dismissed according to the above dismissal policy. Kindergarten to 4th grade teachers will stay with their students and will not release them until a parent or authorized person has arrived. If no one is there to pick up the student, he/she will be taken to the office and will remain there until released to the care of a parent or authorized person. Parents are required to give written authorization if their child will be going home with someone other than an
authorized person (i.e. going on a play date, a neighbor is to pick them up). If your child is participating in after-school programming, the after-school coordinator or teacher will provide information about dismissal procedures.
